The YMCA is a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening Manatee County through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We believe that strong communities are possible only when we invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors.
Across the country, people are concerned about the quality of life in their communities. Issues such as unemployment, chronic disease, educational disparities, poverty, negative youth behaviors, and stress on families affect the strength of communities. To bring about meaningful change, individuals need ongoing support, encouragement and connections to others – all of which the Y provides in abundance.
The Y has the long-standing track record and on-the-ground presence necessary to address the county’s most pressing social issues related to youth, health and community life. With a mission to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
The YMCA celebrates 170 years! That’s because in 10,000 neighborhoods across the nation, we have the presence and partnerships to not just promise, but deliver, positive change. Locally the Manatee YMCA has been providing membership, programs and services for more than 40 years.
Our impact is felt every day. With a mission to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all, our impact is felt when an individual makes a healthy choice, when a mentor inspires a child and when a community comes together for the common good.
We’re an inclusive organization of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility.
Areas of Focus
Giving Back and Providing Support to Our Neighbors
Across Manatee County, the Y helps people give back and assist our neighbors by offering them opportunities to volunteer, advocate and support programs that strengthen community. At the Y, we are volunteer-founded, volunteer-led organization. Volunteers are found at every level of the Y – in childcare, health & wellness, youth mentoring, board leadership and more. Through the Y’s For A Better Us annual scholarship campaign, the Y provides financial assistance and income-based membership rates so that everyone can benefit from Y programs and membership. Additionally, the Y partners with other area non-profits enabling our members to support the community through donations and volunteerism.
Improving Health and Well-Being
Through advocacy and leadership, the Y is a leading voice on health and well-being. With a mission centered on balance, the Y brings families closer together, encourages good health and fosters connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. As a result, thousands of Manatee County youth, adults and families are receiving the support, guidance and resources needed to achieve greater health and well-being for their spirit, mind and body.
Nurturing the Potential of Every Child & Teen
The Y believes that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. That’s why thousands of Manatee’s kids today are engaged in Y programs that encourage our core-values – character, honesty, respect and responsibility. In our membership and program centers, award-winning early learning & education, school age centers, summer camp, youth sports, swimming, youth fitness, leadership, mentoring and volunteerism, are all Y programs that are helping Manatee’s kids and teens reach their full potential.
