At the Y, we believe that being healthy means more than being physically active. We are more than a gym, we’re a cause. For more than 48 years, the Y has been committed to providing programs for families and children in Manatee County.
Some of the most important programs that we’ve embraced at the Manatee YMCA are our Gang Prevention and Youth programs in South Manatee County. Our work in in Pride Park and surrounding areas has provided critical services and support to communities where families and kids need our help the most. Our YDASH before and after school program, and our YREADS early childhood literacy programs are also important services that the South County YMCA provides to the community.
Our work in Pride Park has been tremendous, but we can do so much more. For almost 40 years, Pride Park has wanted and needed a community center. For the past 20 years, the Y has been offering youth programs like after school and day camp, mentoring programs, job assistance, youth sports, and health and wellness programs to the children of Pride Park. The Y’s outreach here has confronted the issues of poverty and youth gangs. Many of our programs are currently being held at Harllee Middle School and include Tackle Football, Soccer, Baseball, Basketball, Cheerleading, and more. In addition, the South Manatee Branch reaches out to families in need assisting through collaborations with churches, businesses and individuals in the community. The branch focuses on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.
Within the next few years, we plan to build a 35,000-square-foot community center which will include an outdoor pool, gymnasium, fitness equipment, multipurpose rooms, lockers and showers, and a teen lounge. With a fully equipped Y, the community will have access to youth sports, swim lessons, day camp programs, adult fitness, water safety and swimming lessons. The facility will provide a safe place for children, teens and families in the community to gather. The Pride Park neighborhood will benefit immensely from the construction of this new community center, providing a safe place of fun and recreation for local children and families.
A project of this scope will take support from our community, we can’t do it alone. Every donation to the Y addresses serious needs, and we need your help. Because of you, we never turn our backs on anyone in need. And thanks to you, we’re changing lives and making a difference. 100% of the money you donate to support Pride Park will go towards helping children and families in that community.
